Feeling out of sorts or inadequate as you head into 2019? Does everyone around you seem to have a great plan, all optimistic heading into 2019 and you don’t know what you’re up to or where you’re headed? Does cleaning out the fridge or recycling magazines feel like a great achievement? Does the idea of a new vision and specific goals for 2019 seem way out of reach?
If so, cut yourself some slack! Be where you are. Let go of your inner critic--it’s hard to dream when your saboteurs are bringing you down.
Then unclench your jaw, relax your shoulders, breathe, let your mind wander:
--Maybe this year is about starting something new, whether you know what that is, or not.
--Maybe this year is a continuation year for you, building upon the past, making incremental progress.
--Maybe this is a completion year for you, reaching a personal, professional or family milestone.
-- Maybe this is a foundation year for you, putting in place necessary requirements for achieving longer-term goals.
--Maybe this year is about sitting in the unknowns and making space for exploration.
--Maybe this year is about letting go of narratives that no longer serve you.
--Maybe this year is about putting your head down, being disciplined and focused.
--Maybe this year is about having more fun, experiencing joy, lightness, good times.
--Maybe this year is about taking risks-- if not now, when?
--Maybe this year is about taking a leap, even if you don’t know what that is yet.
If 2019 isn’t shaping up for you yet, start with being honest and clear about where you are right now. Then you’ll have a foundation to build on.
